Nick Morris, Luciana Riso and Dan Atherton’s short films have been selected for BFI London Film Festival.
Nick Morris’s ‘Know The Grass’ written and directed by Sophie Littman is about a 15-year-old girl, Mattie, who has vivid dreamlike premonitions, which she is encouraged to ignore by her older brother Marco. But Mattie begins to sense that these visions might have more substance than they would like to believe.
Luciana’s ‘Ear for Eye’ directed and written by Tucker Green is an adaptation from a stage production, which explores the themes of demonstrations vs direct action, violence vs non-violence, the personal vs structural across Black families, friends, students and older generations in contemporary British and American society and features a soundtrack from artists including Run the Jewels, FKA twigs and Kano.
Dan Atherton’s ‘JOY’ directed by Alexandra Brodski, is about a group of children in a secure care home for troubled kids (some of whom have even committed crimes). They live their lives under really strict discipline, until one of the residents - a 12 year old girl who has renamed herself Beyoncé - comes up with a brilliant way of giving her friends a sense of freedom within the confines of the home - through a wild and original form of dance and movement.
It's definitely worth checking out these brilliant shorts!
BFI London Film Festival takes place 6th - 17th October
